"If we keep talking to each other as if one of us is Tucker Carlson and one of us is Rachel Maddow, it's not going to turn out to be a good conversation."

  • Elliott was born and raised in White Bear Lake. While at White Bear High, he was a student-athlete, participated in student-led Christian organizations, led extensive volunteer work in and out of school, and met his wife, Faith.

  • He attended Hamline University, earning a B.A. in Legal Studies and Political Science. At Hamline University, Elliot was a member of the collegiate baseball team, earning awards for success on the field and in the classroom.

  • When he wasn't on the baseball diamond, he led a group that discussed public policy. There, he invited individuals of all political ideologies to participate in the discussion- knowing that while we differ, we all should have the ability to speak on our beliefs and challenge ideas with civility.

  • Currently working in Invasive Species Prevention for a non-profit environmental organization, he also has experience in manufacturing and the legal field. His wife, Faith Engen, is a local small business owner.

  • He recognizes that politics flow downstream of culture, and believes that for too long politicians have resorted to simplistic character attacks rather than aiming for solutions. He believes it's time his community is represented by a public servant- not a typical politician. He hopes to bring transparency, accountability, and cooperation back to his state's capital.

Faith met Elliot when they were in high school and was immediately attracted to his magnetic personality. She knows that when her husband wants to do something, he goes all in. So when he told her he was going to run, she instantly supported him. With a background in graphic design, she has helped her husband design most of his campaign materials and isn't afraid to knock on doors to help get people out to vote.

Julius could not have grown up more differently than Elliott. As a black man from Chicago who grew up poor, he thinks that even though their backgrounds are different and they might not have everything in common, they can still have a conversation and work towards the greater good. Elliott's natural ability to listen and try to understand other individual's beliefs is the reason that Julius thinks he will make a fantastic elected official.
