"I've seen all the issues and the wrongdoings but I've also seen the beauty in the purity of DC and I love this city. I want to be able to make a change"

"

  • Corren was born and raised in the D.C/Maryland area. Always an overachiever, she graduated high school in the top 10 of her class and went on to graduate college magna cum laude.

  • After college, she began working as a Corrections Officer at the DC Department of Corrections, a men's prison. She was a member of the emergency response team; handling disturbances, riots, cell extractions, mass searches, and other situations in prisons that are likely to involve uncooperative or violent prisoners.

  • During her time as a Corrections Officer, she was able to connect with the inmates and hear their stories. It was during that time that she came face to face with the injustices, not only in the justice system but also in the lack of education & social programs, that lead to mass incarceration. Because of this, she decided to quit her job and dedicate herself to running for mayor.

  • The daughter of lifelong Democrats, she discovered the Green party later in life. She felt like their emphasis on the environment mixed with their very progressive views align with her own. She believes that if people open their minds beyond just looking at Democrat and Republican candidates, they will be able to make more meaningful progress and change our government for the better.

Leniqua'dominique is Corren's friend who is also running for office. She is running for D.C. City Council at large. She thinks it has been great that they have been able to help each other through thier campaigns. As black women, they can relate to a lot of the same challenges that come with running for public office.

David Schwartzman is professor emeritus at Howard University. He's a long-term activist and past candidate of the DC Statehood Green Party. With previous experience running a campaign, he's been helping Corren by making sure she's covering all her bases and doing everything by the book.
